Currahee Artists' Guild Winners for Spring Show 2009

The Currahee Artists’ Guild held its annual Spring Arts and Crafts Festival on Saturday, May 2nd. Seventy-five adults and 62 school students participated in the show which was held at the Studio and the covered breezeway in historic downtown Toccoa.

Harold Alexander sponsored and judged the Cleo Alexander floral competition. The flower selections for this year’s competition were lilies, roses and hydrangeas. First place went to Cynthia Poser with Gail Watson second and Donna Voll third. Martha Willis won the white rose award.

Other category winners were:

Oil/Acrylic: first place, Lula Lowry; second place, Cynthia Poser; third place, Connie Gerdts and honorable mention, Chae Hinson.

Photography: first place, Clarence Wulf; second place, Keith Hornick; third place, Richard Pedrelli and honorable mention, Darrell Durbin.

Computer Enhanced Photography: first place, Keith Hornick; second place, Lynn Miller;
Third place, Wayne Smith and honorable mention, Jerry Cudworth.

Pastel: first place, Cheri Clary; second place, David Turner; third place, Tinker Bachant
And honorable mention, Sandy Hutchinson.

Mixed Media: first place, Betsy Hodges; second place, Wayne Smith; third place, Pat McGuire and honorable mention, Lula Lowry

Drawing: first place, Linda Kelleher; second place, Bobby Scroggs; third place, David Turner and honorable mention, Cheri Clary.

Watercolor: first place, Gail Watson; second place, Connie Gerdts; third place, Loretta Addison and honorable mention, Dorothy Sawicki.

Pottery: first place, Carolyn Simmons; second place, Donna Voll; third place, Janet Kaup and honorable mention, Jared Kaup.

Fine Crafts: first place, Gwynne Goodlett; second place, Shawn Noah; third place Lucia Scroggs and honorable mention, Elaine Bailey.

Best in Show: Wayne Smith.

Exhibitors’ Choice Award: Linda Kelleher.

Julius Johnson Award: Gail Watson

Awards were also given in the student competition. They included:

Grades K-2: first place, Jacob Scully; second place, Jordon Dulcio; third place, Gavin Deal and honorable mention, Julia Raybon and Wiley Hartley.

Grades 3-5: first place, Hallie Hartley; second place, Noah King; third place, Ann Mariee Knight and honorable mention Justin Crunkleton, Asia Wilson and Maggie Smith.

Grades 6-8: first place, Emma Hodges; second place, Jan Watson; third place, Sarah Hodges and honorable mention, Joseph Handwork.

Grades 9-12: first place, Rachel cheek; second place, Lauren Copelan; third place, Kendall Norman and honorable mention, Rachel Watson and Chelsea Loria.

Judge for the show was Madeline Darnell from Athens, Ga., who received her masters in art education from the University of Georgia and currently teaches art at the
Lyndon House Arts Center in Athens.
